Hailing from Ottawa, this duo – Jayem (the vocal powerhouse and multi-instrumentalist wizard) and Ricky 100 (the bass/guitar slinger laying down the law) – never disappoints their fans. Jayem, pulling double duty as the track’s producer, does his job perfectly.
“Better Days” kicks off with those guitars that sound like they’ve been baking in the sun all day. Lyrically, Jayem ain’t sugarcoating it. Born from processing “some bad stuff that happened last summer,” the song goes into loss and all that. But this ain’t a dirge! Nah, Wotts nails that feeling of a summer night when everything feels kinda fragile, but you’re still holding onto hope, you know? That’s exactly what Jayem was going for, and boy did he nail it. It’s like, yeah, you’re in your feelings, but there’s still something bigger and brighter out there. The FLANKI EP explores different shades of loss, and “Better Days” is a perfect, potent preview – acknowledging the hurt (“definitely sad in places”) but refusing to drown in it.
