Los Angeles just coughed up a new beast, and his name is Jonny Diina. His project Some Spirit dropped “Make It Anyway” on May 8th, and lemme tell you – this thing is a slow-burning monster that’ll crawl under your skin and stay there.
Diina ain’t messing around. He’s handling vocals, keys, AND guitar all by himself, and the dude makes it sound like a full damn band on fire. The track kicks off with a somber piano line that reeks of Depeche Mode at their moodiest – you know, that dark, brooding atmosphere that makes you wanna wear all black and stare at the rain. But don’t get it twisted. This ain’t no sleepy art project.
Because right when you think you know where it’s going, “Make It Anyway” starts swelling. That minimalist piano intro gives way to a thick wall of sound – think synth-pop textures colliding head-on with gritty, gnarly alternative rock. The guitars bite. The keys pulse. And Diina’s voice is raw as hell, like he’s singing straight into a busted amp in a garage at 2 AM.
This is a fresh venture out of LA, and “Make It Anyway” marks Some Spirit as one to watch. If you’re into brooding, guitar-heavy electronica that actually has guts – not that polished, over-produced junk – then hit play. Let it build. Let it break. Make it loud.
