Richard Green isn’t messing around with “Purpose and Price.” This Milan and London-based cat is doing the whole damn thing himself—composing, performing, producing, the works. We’re talking a solo artist who locks himself in his Italian home studio and just grinds. He hands it off to his sound engineer for the final mix and master, but make no mistake—this is all “Richard Green” from the ground up.
This dude grew up shredding Red Hot Chili Peppers riffs on guitar during his younger years. But don’t think this is some RHCP ripoff—nah, that’s just the foundation. Richard Green layers on hip-hop grooves, funky bass lines, electronic pulses, and even throws in some blues and jazzy vibes for good measure. It’s a stew of styles that somehow doesn’t fall apart.
The story behind this one? Green caught some TV show dialogue where one character asks another, “But… how much does it cost to you?“—referring to their human soul. That question stuck. And boom, you’ve got a track about trading your humanity for success. There’s an intentional aggression here that makes you feel like you’re watching someone make a deal with the devil. It’s not subtle, and it shouldn’t be.
The dude’s versatility is off the charts. He’s got a neoclassical trilogy already finished, and now he’s dropping this funky/rock hybrid before releasing “Electronic Therapy“—a six-track EP mixing electronic, techno, and house. And get this: “Purpose and Price” is gonna show up again on another EP dropping in September or October. This guy doesn’t sleep.
Richard Green himself says his main strength is composing in completely different styles. And he’s not wrong. This track proves he can bounce between worlds and still land on his feet. “Purpose and Price” hits hard. It’s got groove, grit, and something to say.
