Pull up a barstool. Mattock is a two-piece wrecking crew from Southern Maryland, and they just dropped “Lil’ Busted Fox” on April 27th, 2026. This cut is from their upcoming album Daughters, due early Summer 2026. And let me tell you—these guys have the kind of grit that makes you wanna smash a bottle and start a pit.
Who the hell are Mattock? Formed in 2022 by two old warhorses who’ve been around the block more times than a delivery truck. First up: Casey Brandt on guitar. This dude cut his teeth in New York City’s legendary club scene back in the early oughts. We’re talking CBGB. The Continental. He played those sacred floors with his band Satirius Johnson. That’s real rock pedigree, not some Instagram hype.
Behind the kit? Jason Fletcher. He crawled out of the DMV music scene of the 1990s and early 2000s, bashing skins for bands like Mr. Blowfish, Anomic, and Slowburn Shift. These two first locked in together back in 2011 playing with Crystal Brandt & The River. Then the pandemic hit. They reconnected, started writing, and never looked back.
Their debut album Songs About Birds landed Summer 2024—raw, heartfelt, hypnotic grooves and expansive folk-rock soundscapes. Now they’re following up with Daughters, and “Lil’ Busted Fox” is our first taste.
What does it sound like? Americana-rock that weaves folk rock, indie, punk, and classic rock into something familiar but unexpected. The kind of tune that rides a dirty guitar riff while the drums punch holes in the wall. No fancy malarkey. Just authentic songwriting and adventurous arrangements from two guys who love the roots of rock and roll.
Wind the volume of “Lil’ Busted Fox” to maxxx. Then go dig into Songs About Birds while you wait for Daughters. These guys earned your ear.
