We caught up with SIVA to talk about how living in Hong Kong affected their music, how 90s bands have shaped their sound, and the creative process behind their upcoming EP, ALERTA.

How would you describe your music to someone who’s never heard it?

SIVA is a rock band from Argentina, with a sound rooted in alternative and indie, guitar-driven rock. We have a mix of influences from 90s icons like Smashing Pumpkins and Garbage, to modern acts like Royal Blood and Saint Vincent.

How has your sound evolved since you first started making music?

Well, the band started like a solo Project of mine (Kari, Singer, guitarist, songwriter) in 2017, coming from many years of playing in Hyperstatic, I wanted to explore the roots of my favorite sounds and artists of the 90s like Weezer, Nirvana, Juliana Hatfield. Then in 2019 the band transformed in a solid line up with Julio Moreno on bass, and Cristian Guida Bria on drums who´s been there since the beginning. Then the style expanded to different sounds and arrangements, incorporating elements of all kinds of modern rock.

What’s a bizarre or unexpected inspiration behind one of your songs?

There´s a a song from our first EP Longer Days, called Mongkok. It´s inspired in the busiest district in Hong Kong (I used to live there late 90s) and it was where I started singing in bands, and going to a rehearsal space, I took that experience of still playing rock against all odds, and turned it into Mongkok, the song!

What’s the most memorable moment of your music career so far?

I think when we played in ons of the biggest festivals in Argentina like Cosquin Rock, and also when we opened fro Marky Ramone im 2023. Anyway, whenever we get to créate a new song as a band, I think is a memorable great moment!

Tell us all you can about your latest release and where and when to find it?

We are in the middle of releasing ALERTA, (EP), there´s 2 songs out and 2 more to come son. Influencer is the current single, it´s got the original versión in Spanish with a video that has over 11.000 plays on YouTube, and received some airplay on Quiero Musica TV in Argentina. The English versión has made it into a few cool playlists, which you can find on Spotify. Follow us as @sivarawk everywhere. Thank you!
