We had the pleasure of sitting down for a brief chat with I, Captain to discuss their latest EP, One For The Money. How would you describe your music to someone who’s never heard it?

I’d describe my music to someone who’s never heard it as a mixture between old low-fi punk and a more modern blues rock style.

How has your sound evolved since you first started making music?

My sound has evolved a great deal from the time I started playing. I have a lot of musical influences that have helped me learn to try different things. Finding influence in a variety of music and art has definitely helped me to evolve over the years.

What’s a bizarre or unexpected inspiration behind one of your songs?

That’s an interesting question. I’d probably say the song “That’s just Steve” off the self-titled debut album. It’s about a guy I worked with years ago who, after everything he said he’d end with “You know what I’m saying’. It was a simple observation that made me laugh and it ended up as a song. He was a very interesting guy, in a good way.

What’s the most memorable moment of your music career so far?

The most memorable moment so far has probably been getting the music out there finally. I’ve been playing for about 35 years now and it’s nice to have the platforms to introduce the music. It was a lot harder back in the early days, although now there is more to compete with, I guess. I’m very thankful for the opportunities that are available now, however.

Tell us all you can about your latest release and where and when to find it?

The new release is an EP titled “One for the Money” or simply EP 1. It’s basically some songs that didn’t have a home. I always wanted to do EP’s in addition to full-length albums, so these four songs really worked for that. It was released on March 24th of this year and it can be found on my website icaptainmusic.com and also on most music streaming services. Thank you so much for time.
