It’s impressive how Head Sound combines sound and emotion so seamlessly in their latest single ‘Optimistic’. Inspired by the greats before them like My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Radiohead, and Brian Eno, the band continues to craft and refine their sonic palette to great effect, and the results are nothing short of spectacular. This isn’t the first time we’ve been honored to listen and review Head Sound’s music, as we have also gushed about their first 2024 single–the radiant and colorful Like a Painting. The band’s states that their mission is to make “shoegaze that we would be excited to listen to”, and we applaud them as they have made something that we’re definitely excited to play on repeat.
Head Sound wrote, recorded, and mixed Optimistic by themselves, which is an impressive feat and gives us a sigh of relief knowing that this sonic magic is repeatable and fully within their grasp. Lyrically, it’s about trying to look at the brighter side after being inspired by a loved one. This is reflected in the song’s bright mood. The guitars and synth swells feel like the sun’s beckoning in the early morning. The feeling of reassurance that today is a new day, a new beginning and opportunity to see things in a better light.
