Energy Whores aren’t here to hold your hand. They are here to shove a megaphone in your face. On their new single “Army of the Insane,” the trio serves up a punishing dose of avant-electro that acts as a dark, electronic warning about the absolute state of the world. This is a brutal, high-voltage protest record built on pure anger about propaganda, political division, and how the vulnerable get targeted by fear-mongering.
You’ve got vocalist and visual artist Carrie Schoenfeld leading the charge, flanked by producer and co-writer Grant out of NYC, and guitarist Attilio Valenti. Together, they mash up electronic production, art rock, protest folk, and pop into a sound that feels completely unhinged. The track moves with a terrifying, almost horror-movie edge. It’s built to make you feel like the walls are closing in. The rhythm pulses like a heartbeat on speed, and the harsh electronics grind against your eardrums. It’s the kind of track that makes you want to punch a hole in the drywall. Schoenfeld’s vocals sound like a frantic siren cutting through the static, demanding that you pay attention to the chaos unfolding around you.
Lyrically and thematically, it’s a total nightmare scenario. Schoenfeld wrote it to capture the sheer terror of watching people get swept up in fear and manipulation, turning on each other while the real monsters pull the strings. The song is a screaming warning about the consequences of a society that stops thinking for itself. Following up their previous work exploring power and technology, this track is the perfect distillation of their mission to confront modern anxiety. They don’t offer easy answers, just a raw, unfiltered look at the madness.
The accompanying video matches the audio’s intensity perfectly, throwing images of unrest and chaos at you, complete with a looming Big Brother-style screen and a massive warning to wake the hell up. It’s visual chaos for the anti-propaganda crowd.
So if you want rock music that actually has a spine and makes you feel deeply uncomfortable, look no further. Energy Whores are throwing down the gauntlet. “Army of the Insane” is out now. Listen to it, let it piss you off, and wake up.
