Echo The Light aren’t trying to be cool. They’re trying to be useful. The Oklahoma trio made up of Chris on guitar and bass, his wife Jessie on vocals and keys, and his brother-in-law Derek on drums have been playing together for eighteen years across two different bands. They met in a family music room, just jamming, and never stopped. Now they’ve got a song called “Send Me” that wears its purpose on its sleeve. This is worship music with a rock backbone, and it doesn’t apologize for either.

The song came out of Jessie pouring her heart out during a worship session. She wrote it as a cry to God to be sent, to have her gifts used to bring people closer to Him. The bridge caught her by surprise, she says. It was God reminding her who she is, what she’s been given, and that sitting still isn’t an option. That’s the fire behind this track. It’s not a sad church song. It’s a call to action. Chris built most of the guitar and bass parts, aiming for that modern worship atmosphere but letting a country and Americana flavour sneak in. From the second chorus on, you get that old 90s and 00s overdrive tone, and it hits right. Producer Trent Bell shaped the guitar sound perfectly, and Derek’s percussion fills the whole thing out.

They recorded at Bell Labs in Norman, Oklahoma. That studio has history. The Flaming Lips, The Starlight Mints, and Walking Relic have all worked there. Chris and the band have been recording there since 2009, cutting their first two EPs and debut album under the name Walking Relic, plus some solo material. Trent Bell has been behind the board the whole time, and he doesn’t just execute their vision. He adds ideas. One of those ideas changed the ending. The song was going to fade out, but Jessie liked the overflow tracks, so Trent messed with the conclusion. Now it lands with intention. It feels like a journey instead of a slow dissolve.

Echo The Light have no live shows yet, but they’re open to it. Their mission is simple: foster a worship-minded atmosphere, show people God’s love, and have fun doing it. Jessie said something that sticks: “It’s all in your head, until suddenly it isn’t.” For them, recordings aren’t just songs. They’re promises kept. “Send Me” is out now. If you want rock with a higher purpose, this one’s for you.
