Dust Cwaine’s new single and video, “Little Plans,” is a celebration buzzing with the electric energy of new love and specifically the transformative power of T4T connection.
Produced by the sharp-eared Josh Eastman (Kylie V, Turunesh) and co-written by Cwaine and the talented Charlie Kerr (Hotel Mira), “Little Plans” kicks off as the blazing lead single for the forthcoming album Twin Lakes, dropping later this year. The track is exactly what you’d hope for: a driving synth-rock beast. Consider this—the moody, textured synth excess of The Cure smashing head-on into the unflinching emotional honesty of HAIM or Noah Kahan, then shot through with pure adrenaline. It’s nostalgic but feels completely in-the-moment, built on a foundation that makes you want to move.
Cwaine, the BC drag performer and musical force (pronouns: They/Them), doesn’t hold back: “Little Plans’ is a T4T love story that celebrates the joy of trans love.” They’ve pressure-cooked that dizzy, everything-is-different feeling when you meet someone new and your whole world shifts. You know that feeling where suddenly even grocery shopping feels like an adventure? That’s the magic they’re talking about – that “particular power that T4T love brings” – and it’s what makes this track absolutely soar. We’re talking about potential, transformation, and holding onto every hint of what could be.
This isn’t some newcomer testing the waters. Dust Cwaine’s been owning stages for almost ten years now, killing it as both a drag performer/impresario and, since 2020, as a songwriter who’s created something totally their own. Their sound – which they brilliantly call “nostalgia pop-rock navel gaze” – has caught the attention of all the right people. We’re talking features in Exclaim!, The Jam Arden Podcast, and they even snagged that Vancouver Local Hero title from The Georgia Straight in 2024. Pretty impressive, right? They’ve shared stages with Hotel Mira and Young Friend, and they’re selling out headline shows from coast to coast. After dropping the killer 2024 singles “Brooklyn” and “Everything,” plus the 2023 EP JZ and their knockout 2022 debut Arcana, “Little Plans” has everyone counting down the days until Twin Lakes drops.
“Little Plans” is a triumph. Dust Cwaine delivers every line like someone who knows exactly who they are and what needs saying. This is evidence that Twin Lakes is gonna blow our minds. Dust Cwaine‘s about to make 2025 their year.
