Plug in and drift off—Cupid Spell just summoned something dark, hypnotic, and seriously cool with their debut single, “Look Alike”. Hailing from Bloomington, IN, the duo—Josh Kreuzman (of the darkwave project Twice Dark) and Mandy Buffington—came together in the summer of ‘25 with one goal: forge something natural, mystical, and utterly magnetic. First shot – Bullseye.

The track opens like a dream you can’t shake—coats of vague, spacious sound that pull you under. But just as you settle into the drift, the vocals slide in—Kreuzman’s delivery staunch, mesmerising, almost ritualistic, pulling you deeper into the kind of Lynchian twilight that inspired this whole thing. Then, Buffington’s voice rises above—elegant, haunting, harmonizing like a ghost in the machine. That push-and-pull—shadow against light, grit against grace—is where “Look Alike” finds its throb.

The arrangement is lean but mean. The keys drift with a retro-futuristic tension, leaving just enough space for those vocals to command the room. Kreuzman’s production savvy gleams—you feel his love for film noir and alt-music in every textured layer, every carefully placed silence. This is music that leans in close and whispers. And Buffington brings balance—an emotional anchor that keeps the track grounded, ensuring it never floats too far into the abstract.

Created for the 10th issue of Lover’s Eye Press—a folio tribute to David Lynch—“Look Alike” drips with that unmistakable Twin Peaks aura. It’s moody, mysterious, layered like a midnight onion. This isn’t just a song; it’s a full-sensory vibe. A damn cool one.

Cupid Spell has more singles slated through 2025 and 2026. If “Look Alike” is the opening salvo, we’re in for good stuff. So kill the lights, elevate the decibels drastically, and allow it to envelop you entirely.
