We’ve got something special cooking out of Connecticut that’s about to blow your speakers wide open. Calico Sun—the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist madman Sam Bahman—just dropped “Fields,” and let me tell you, this thing is a damn journey.
Bahman, who’s been tearing up the Boston scene for over a decade as a lead guitarist, decided to say “screw it” to the industry grind and lock himself away in his home studio, The Chalet. And thank the rock gods he did. This guy spent five. Whole. Years. Making this track and the upcoming album “Cosmic Revelations.” That’s dedication to the riff, baby.
“Fields” creeps up on you like a warm buzz, weaving through psychedelic landscapes and dreamy indie vibes until you’re completely lost in the sauce. Bahman’s vocals wrap around your skull with this retro sheen that’d make your granddad’s vinyl collection jealous, layered in harmonic clusters that just float. And the production is pure ear candy. Synths and guitars dance together like they’ve been doing this for decades.
The rhythm section gets some serious muscle from longtime friend and former bandmate Rob Megna, who lays down the drum work across the album. Meanwhile, Victor Aruda handled the mixing and mastering, making sure every single texture pops through the speakers like it should. And don’t sleep on the visual side—illustrator Taz Paspirgelis cooked up the cover art, while Bahman himself directed a video shot across three damn seasons. Spring, summer, fall—this dude waited a full year to capture the vibe he wanted. That’s rock and roll commitment.
What’s “Fields” actually about? Bahman says it’s “the slow realisation that growth often happens quietly.” And you can hear it. This track doesn’t rush. It breathes. It swells. It invites you to kick back, light one up, and let the hypnotic waves wash over you.
If you’re into Pink Floyd, Tame Impala, or any of that spaced-out psych goodness, Calico Sun is about to become your new obsession. “Fields” is a slow-burning ripper that proves some things are worth the wait. Play it loud and let it take you somewhere else.
