It’s Applied Communications, the wild solo product of Max Wood, and he’s hitting us with a banger called “boyfie sale.” This track serves as the kick-off from his upcoming EP, Greatest Applied Communications Music, dropping April 18th. Max took a break from the music scene, but now he’s back, putting a new turn on his old stuff.
Max’s journey has been anything but typical. As a teenager, he was making this experimental pop that had critics losing their minds—Pitchfork even called his 2005 album Uhhh Sort Of among the worst of the year. Yet, it was this very audacity that built a loyal fanbase, as he performed in quirky venues like laundromats and laser tag arenas. Now, nearly two decades later, he’s still got that crazy energy, but now it’s all grown up, thanks in part to a resurgence sparked by TikTok influencer Madeline Pendleton.
“boyfie sale” is like bottled-up teenage anarchy, but with Max’s new mature twist. It’s a total chute-the-chute ride – glitchy beats mixed with angsty tunes that’ll remind you of his old stuff, but way more polished. It’s Max saying, “Hey, remember me? Well, check this out!” It’s like an invitation to jump back into the weird and wonderful world of Applied Communications.
With this new EP, Max Wood is not revisiting his past; he’s redefining it. “boyfie sale” is just the beginning, and it’s clear that Applied Communications is ready to blow minds once again. If you’re into rock music that’s anything but boring, you need to give this a listen.
