Apple Eyes are a London duo who don’t need a fancy studio to make a racket. Their single “Be” is a synth-driven kick in the teeth that proves you can do it all yourself if you’ve got the guts. Claire Hadidjenar and Matthew Walker met at university, and together they’ve built a sound that’s part electronic, part rock, all heart.
The song is about life’s unpredictable twists and turns. That’s the theme. But the music doesn’t wallow. It’s uplifting, with a nostalgic glow that feels like a warm memory you can’t quite place. Claire handles lyrics, lead vocals, and co-production. Matthew writes the music, plays a pile of instruments, and handles production and mixing. Between them they cover guitar, bass, drums, synths, piano, violin, and trumpet. They played every note themselves in their London home studio. Two people who know what they’re doing.
Here’s the kicker: they built their own synthesiser plug-in for this track. They named it after their cat, Lucille. That’s not a gimmick. That’s dedication. The song was written shortly after they adopted Lucille, and you can feel that sense of new energy running through it. The influences are clear if you know where to look: Phoenix, Air, Daft Punk, Bat for Lashes, Of Montreal. But Apple Eyes don’t copy. They take those sounds and twist them into something that’s theirs.
Apple Eyes have made something special with “Be“. It’s smart, catchy, and built with care. This duo is just getting started, and if this single is any sign, they’ve got a lot more gas in the tank.
