Alright, strap in, you beautiful rock ‘n’ roll degenerates, because Barry J Walsh is about to blast your speakers straight into the stratosphere with his new single “Star Ride“ – and lemme tell ya, this sucker is a supersonic slice of celestial pop that’s got more swing than a spent meteor spiralling down to Earth!
From the jump, this track ain’t messin’ around. Barry rips into a shredded riff that hits you like a ton of space bricks – jagged, dirty, and mean. Then it pulls back into this tight verse with clipped rim shots and stabs of mercury guitar that cut like a switchblade. And that’s where our man Barry lays it out for ya: some free-spirited heart’s desire is just “floating off in space, no sense of time or place, defying gravity’s pull” while he’s stuck planetside “watching the world go round.” Sound familiar? Yeah, thought so.
But then, the chorus kicks in with stacked harmonies so heavenly they’d make a choir of angels trade their harps for Strats. Barry’s guitar work here is a tumbling tangle of star-spangled six-string fury, lighting up the dark side of the moon like a roman candle. And can we talk about that instrumental break? The man weaves in the actual Apollo 11 countdown, for cryin’ out loud! You got nods to Joe Meek’s “Telstar,” whiffs of 50s sci-fi schlock, and even a tip of the helmet to Buzz Lightyear himself. Yeah, I said it. Infinity and beyond, baby!
“Star Ride“ is all about that tug-of-war between Mars and Venus – will these two worlds ever collide or just come crashing down? It’s about taking a chance, following your gut, and reaching for the stars even if you come back with dust in your teeth. Barry J Walsh’s channelin’ every spandex-wearing space cowboy who came before him, but he’s doin’ it with a Stratocaster and a sharp tongue.
Thunderbirds are go, folks. Play it.
