Los Angeles duo Siren Section is back with their latest single, “Medicine”. For over twenty years, the pair, James Cumberland and John Dowling, have been refining their own brand of sonic alchemy, and this new cut proves they’re masters. “Medicine” is a heavy, hypnotic plunge into what they’ve dubbed “glitchgaze,” a sound that grabs the swirling textures of shoegaze, injects it with a shot of electronic adrenaline, and isn’t afraid to get downright noisy.

Let’s be real: this isn’t something you throw on while doing the dishes. “Medicine” hits you with this thick, almost suffocating tension—like storm clouds rolling in. These guys have always walked that tightrope between getting up close and personal while painting on a massive canvas, and man, they nail it here. The whole thing revolves around this push-and-pull between that building pressure and what they’re calling “cascading relief.” And you know what? You can actually feel it happening. Those glitchy sounds and that wall-of-sound production create this gnawing unease that suddenly breaks open into something gorgeous you didn’t see coming. It’s wild—all these sounds that shouldn’t play nice together somehow lock into place and create something that’ll knock you sideways.

This track follows the earlier single “Glass Cannon,” and both are set to appear on the band’s forthcoming concept album, Separation Team, due at the end of the year. “Medicine” is the perfect dose—a haunting, powerful, and ultimately cathartic listen that confirms Siren Section as a vital force in the experimental rock scene. This is the good stuff.
