If you’re done with squeaky-clean, algorithm-friendly rock, then let “Love Redacted” by Blindness & Light hit you like a bucket of cold water. Hailing from a loose collective of musicians stretching from Anglesey to Yorkshire—with even contributors in Japan and Argentina—this isn’t your typical rigid band setup. And thank god for that.

“Love Redacted” is the sixth track off their latest album, I Dreamt I Had Insomnia, and it stands out as what the band calls a “rare solo aberration.” That’s because this blistering cut is primarily the brainchild of Colin M Potter, who takes the reins on vocals, songwriting, guitar, and every other sound that shapes this in-your-face anthem. His delivery is full of grit and conviction, echoing that unpolished glory of late 80s and early 90s indie—which the band swears was the purest era for guitar music.

“Love Redacted” nails that universal struggle of losing yourself just to fit in—and that powerful moment when you finally decide to take back control and move the hell on. It’s an anthem for anyone who’s ever felt watered down by other people’s expectations. There’s no looking back here, just forward motion powered by guitars and rhythms.

Production-wise, this track was cooked up on the Isle of Anglesey before it got shipped off to Germany’s Outback Studios, where Benedikt and Thomas worked their mixing and mastering magic. Hell, they even made the cover art and video during some wild backyard bonfire, using old car touch-up paint to scrawl out the song title. Tell me that’s not the most rock ‘n’ roll thing you’ve heard today.

Blindness & Light has already bagged three number ones on the European Indie Music Chart, and it’s no surprise. With “Love Redacted,” they’re proving once again that they don’t give a damn about what’s trending—they just do their own thing. We’re talking post-punk with real audacity, noise that actually means something, and rock music with rebellion running through its veins.
