We speak to Bean.S.Talk about their eccentric, blues-rooted rock sound that blends raw imperfection with experimental soundscapes designed to transport listeners into strange, emotional spaces. They share how inspirations as odd as frog recordings shaped tracks like “Bumbletoad,” while their upcoming 14-song album leans more country-tinged and organic, continuing their journey of embracing authenticity and playful creativity.

How would you describe your music to someone who’s never heard it?

I would say it leans toward an eccentric feel and sound. Rooted in blues/rock for the most part. I love the human feel of music, today things to me are sounding too polished, too perfect, too mechanical, and too expected. My heart is to make music I want to listen to, whether it’s just straight out there, more organic, or even if it has some fine tuned “perfectionism” (which you won’t find much here really LOL).

How has your sound evolved since you first started making music?

In my first band “The Jerri Project”, it was more blues/metal driven, guided more so by my awesome band mate, who was excellent at song structure and timing (he is a killer drummer). Since moving on, I have enjoyed just being me, and being a big fan of Alice In Chains, Primus, Project, and The Presidents Of The United States Of America, I found what I love to do. I have been writing quite a few soundscapes lately where the goal (other than me enjoying it) is to hopefully make you feel like you just experienced something, or were taken somewhere and dropped back off where you were picked up from.

What’s a bizarre or unexpected inspiration behind one of your songs?

Bumbletoad. My buddy sent me an audio clip of some frogs out by his place. That sat in my email for a good portion of time before I pulled it out to write a “song” to, or about it… That didn’t quite happen though. It was the first soundscape to be added to my library, it started with frogs and the sound of bees, a little bit of guitar droning as I searched around my Ampero One guitar pedal for a tone, and a whole lot of my curious rabbit holed mind patterns of experimentation. I let it sit for a bit when it was finished because I didn’t quite know what to make of it, I mean, it pleased me well, but it wasn’t so much of a song for an album, but just this weird soundscape that made me feel all kinds of things. When I finally shared it with my close friend, I wasn’t sure what would be thought of it. Though to my surprise, it was one of his favorite tracks from Bean.S.talk. He really encouraged me to carry on. So, inspired by an audio clip that one friend sent to me and my close buddy (who loathes frogs), I would have never guessed it would be what it became. I actually was being kind of a stinker, because I know how he detests frogs LOL.

What’s the most memorable moment of your music career so far?

That’s a tough question. I write and record a lot of music because for me, it is my journal. It’s hard not to look at any one track and not be immediately transported to that time, place, and experience the feelings at the time, it’s another page in the journal. Eddie Avocado hits me pretty hard, my frame of mind at time and the feelings whirling about within’ me and the company with me at that time was just overwhelming of sorts, neither bad or good, just unusual. It’s an absolutely stupid track, and it just tickles me pink when I hear how absurd it is. It was the first moment I started to embrace me, not only as an artist, but as another person on Earth with everyone else, who was, and is, and is to come.

Tell us all you can about your latest release and where and when to find it?

I am currently working on a 14 track full length album that will be analogous to my first release, “A Collection Of Small Thoughts”. It’s going to have more of a country-ish, back woodsy, feel and sound. Well at least sound wise perhaps. It will have a lot of tracks with lyrics and little to no soundscapes, and contain some short interlude type, pieces of music. A good track to kind of get a sneak peak of the feel would be “so it’s a little walk.”, which is only released on my bandcamp page at the moment. Honestly, I haven’t decided yet whether it will be part of this next release or not, it’s very fitting, but it’s also a neat forerunner. When it’s finished it will be available on my bandcamp page beanstalk.bandcamp.com and all major streaming platforms. I am aiming for a winter release time frame God willing.
