Hell yeah! Blindness & Light isn’t some rigid band – they’re a globe-trotting, rule-breaking post-punk collective that’s firing on all cylinders, and “Your Solitude” is the proof. These guys stretch from Anglesey to Yorkshire, with members scattered in Japan and Argentina. Talk about a loose crew that runs on pure independence. Colin M Potter fronts the whole thing with soul-baring intensity on vocals, songwriting, and guitar. He calls songwriting “base-jumping for the soul” – how’s that for putting it all on the line? Meanwhile, Melisa Dopazo‘s on these hypnotic bass grooves, Glenn Welman‘s hammering out drumlines with primal precision, and Helen Reynolds‘ delivering those crucial, haunting backing vocals that are basically the icing on their beautifully jagged cake.

They recorded “Your Solitude” on the windswept Isle of Anglesey, then had it polished up at Germany’s Outback Studios by Benedikt and Thomas. After ditching a producer who couldn’t match what they were going for, Blindness & Light grabbed the reins and took control of their sound for their second album, I Dreamt I Had Insomnia (dropped February 2025). “Your Solitude” – track five and the vinyl B-side opener – totally embodies this liberation they’ve found.

The song’s heart beats with something we’ve all felt: that desperate wish to see a friend break free from their lonely shell. It’s like screaming into the darkness, but somehow the music makes it beautiful – sad and rebellious all at once. The whole thing creates this incredible tension that’s everything post-punk should be. No surprise their last three singles topped the European Indie Music Chart, or that Tokyo’s craft beer spots can’t stop playing them – who saw that coming from a band that just does whatever the hell they want? These guys started out worshipping Joy Division and Factory Records, and now they’re literally running their PR from Factory’s old Manchester digs. Talk about coming full circle – but completely on their own terms. This scattered bunch of musicians from all over the map, bound together by their need to rebel through sound, making music that hits home whether you’re in Wales, Argentina, or some underground Tokyo club.

Let that bass shake your bones, those guitars bite, and just sink into that brutal, freeing rush. Blindness & Light couldn’t care less about what’s trending; they’re making the kind of post-punk that’ll still matter years from now – all heart, all attitude, no excuses. “Your Solitude” is this gorgeous, dark victory lap – a freedom song for the outsiders, made by outsiders who get it.
