Dinosaur Beard’s new track, “Frida Kahlo”, is something so good, that it proves why this artist refuses to be boxed in. Teaming up with longtime collaborator Aaron Dobos (The Avalanches/Ceres/Big Words), the track is rich and beautiful. Dobos is known for building these rich sounds, and he brings that same magic here – throwing in wild synths and stark electronic grains. But it’s Dinosaur Beard’s signature growl that really ties it all together, dripping with brashness.

Inspired by the booms of Fugazi’s restive energy in there, plus some of that hazy, road-trip feel you get from The War On Drugs“Frida Kahlo” takes that punk spirit and drags it kicking and screaming into 2025. The track’s backstory is pure rock inspo: After a fan smugly declared Dinosaur Beard’s live act “not punk enough,” the artist fired back with the lyric “they say I’m not punk enough, so here’s one for all the plastic dreamers.” These are lyrics that basically say “Oh yeah? Well here’s a big F-you to all you posers out there.” It’s the chorus you can imagine a whole crowd screaming along to, middle fingers raised high.

Recorded at Fallback Studios, this thing’s got drum machines duking it out with real drums, creating this wild beat that’s part robot, part caveman. Then they’ve got these acoustic guitars slicing through synths like a hot knife through margarine. And Dobos – that dude’s production skills are off the charts, twisting everything into this insane, can’t-help-but-nod-your-head groove.

And if you think the recording’s wild, you should see these guys live. They just opened for The Burbs at Catfish in Melbourne, and word on the street is they’re cooking up something even crazier for their April shows. They’re teasing new tracks that are just as bonkers as “Frida Kahlo.” Oh, and heads up – there’s a full album coming soon. This single is just the first punch in what’s gonna be a year-long musical brawl.

A self-described “love of the craft” drives Dinosaur Beard’s work, and it shows. This isn’t music for algorithms or trend-chasers—it’s for those who crave validity in a world of copy-paste artistry. “Frida Kahlo” doesn’t just push the envelope; it sets the whole damn mailroom on fire. Let the plastic dreamers squirm.
