Have you heard Midnight Psychic’s new track? The Connecticut-based duo of Jayson Munro and George Moore, has dropped Mixtape—released on February 5th, a brooding masterpiece that jumps headfirst into memory and regret.
Jayson Munro, the mad genius behind the guitar and vocals, is not messing around. His guitar work feels like he’s conjuring ghosts with those reverb-soaked riffs. And when he starts singing is crazy because it’s like he’s ripping his heart out and showing it to us. George Moore, on bass, lays down a beat foundation that’s as solid as it is sinister. His doom loops are the stuff of nightmares, but somehow you find yourself wanting to dance to them. It’s messed up, but in a totally awesome way.
The production on Mixtape is where things get really interesting. Apparently, they scrapped an earlier version and went full-on experimental. Smart move, really. The song starts off all desolate and stuff, like you’re wandering through some post-apocalyptic wasteland. But then it builds into this massive goth rock monster that’ll eat your soul. The use of ‘80s-style drum machines and programmed keyboards adds a retro edge, but the sound is undeniably modern. It’s a perfect mix of old-school goth and contemporary post-punk.
Mixtape is a meditation on the pain of remembering. It’s like Midnight Psychic took all those memories you can’t shake and turned them into a song. You know, the stuff that sticks with you no matter how hard you try to forget? Yeah, that’s what this track is all about. And the cool thing is, they don’t spell it out for you. They leave room for you to fill in the blanks with your own story. It’s personal, but at the same time, everyone can relate to it. These guys have always been about that moody, dark vibe, and Mixtape is no different.
Midnight Psychic just keeps proving why they’re killing it in the goth rock scene. It’s a reminder that sometimes the darkest tunes can be the most beautiful. So here’s what you do: turn off all the lights, turn it up loud, and let Mixtape transport you. You won’t forget it.
Seriously, these guys knocked it out of the park with this one. Keep rocking, you beautiful dark souls.
