The new single from studio project 2mindsas1, “Slow Motion Car Crash,” is a declaration that these guys mean business. Comprised of two seasoned gunslingers from the indie rock trenches, this track is all tension, release, and melodic power.
First, the pedigree. On vocals and songwriting, you’ve got Rory Flynn, a lifer who’s been making tunes for over three decades and has a stack of solo albums to his name. Handling the sound architecture is writer/producer Yannis Masouras—the former founder, bassist, and main songwriter for Athens-based indie force Matisse, a band that cut its teeth with Sony. Now operating as Sound Service, Masouras brings a studio-savvy edge and a bassist’s innate sense of groove. It’s a powerful pairing forged from a mutual love for the atmospheric crunch of acts like Suede, Editors, and The Killers.
“Slow Motion Car Crash” dives into that all-too-relatable black hole: the date that spectacularly derails. The title says it all—it’s about watching the trainwreck unfold in real time, powerless to stop it. Musically, it’s a perfect storm. This is indie rock with its sleeves rolled up, sweat on the brow, and a heart wide open.
This single is the first shot across the bow for a promised series from late 2025. If “Slow Motion Car Crash” is the benchmark, then 2mindsas1 aren’t only revisiting their influences—they’re dragging them into the present, and delivering a song that’s both meticulously made and utterly electrifying. More, please.
